Chinatown Alleyways
San Francisco, CA
On two occasions, in 2015 and 2018 respectively, I worked with the Chinatown Community Development Center (CCDC). In partnership with CCDC’s youth program, I facilitated the design and installation of two large murals. More than a dozen local high school students participated in each project, by brainstorming designs, creating drawings, and placing tiles.
One mural can be found at Wentworth Alley off Washington St. The piece is inspired by dragon-shaped boats from an ancient Chinese legend. According to the CCDC, the mural is rooted in “Chinese history, culture and the values of family and community.” It is titled Dragon Boats Chasing the Moonlight.
